Cleaning a Coach Bag

Question: I have a Coach bag that is jacquard print with some leather. Have you ever washed a Coach bag at home? I read dish soap may work. Any advice?

Answer #1: If it’s leather, try using Saddle Soap. It’s a glycerin soap bar for cleaning & conditioning leather saddles. I use it in my car on the seats all the time. I also use it on shoes, chairs, purses, really anything leather. You can find it at either shoe stores or anywhere that sells stuff for horses. ETA: Always test on a small discrete spot to test colorfastness.

Answer #2: I wash my jacquard purse and matching shoes with a damp toothebrush. Works great, even when I accidentally stepped in mud with the shoes. The jacquard is stain-resistant, so I didn’t need to use anything else.

Answer #3: If you don’t want to use their recommended cleaning product (that they formulated especially for their bags) ….use saddle soap on the leather. For the cloth, make up some Dreft in the sink (make foam bubbles too). Using a cloth apply the foamy bubbles to the purse and wipe down the purse. Use a clean cloth to damp wipe off the soap (clear water only). You may have to wipe with the soapy bubbles more than once.
